American Rescue Plan
Last week, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan (https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/1319/text) into law. The American Rescue Plan is a massive victory for women, especially women of color, who have been the most impacted by the pandemic. READ HERE
  • The plan includes $25B for child care stabilization, $15 billion for the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG), and $3.55B in the Child Care Entitlement to States (CCES).
  • The American Rescue Plan also temporarily expands the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC). Most importantly, it makes the credit refundable for one year so that families with low and moderate incomes can benefit. The expanded CDCTC is worth a maximum of $4,000 for one child or dependent, and $8,000 for two or more children or dependents for tax year 2021. Families with incomes above $500,000 will not be eligible for the credit.
  • The American Rescue Plan also temporarily expands the Child Tax Credit, increasing the amount of the credit to $3,000 per child ($3,600 for children under age 6), making it fully refundable for families with very low incomes, and partially payable in advance. In addition, the American Rescue Plan expands the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for workers not claiming children for one year as well.
